Liverpool Hopeful Of Landing Starlet, But Who Is He And Where Would He Fit In?

What Brendan Rodgers is doing at Liverpool is commendable to say the least. The way he has built a muscular backline to guard Simon Mignolet, how he has moulded an intricate, agile forward line and most importantly how he has linked them altogether. Now, with his preference towards youth, the Daily Mail are reporting that the Irishman is hopeful of landing Derby starlet Will Hughes in the new year. But who is he, and where would he fit in at Anfield?

The 18-year-old is making waves in the Championship because of the way he can create something out of nothing for his team-mates. Hughes is an attacking midfielder who ghosts between the lines and is constantly buzzing around the forward berths trying to carve an opening, similar to Philippe Coutinho of Liverpool.

Hughes has played 13 games this season for the Rams, scoring twice and claiming three assists. He holds the ability to play in the wide areas because of his fleet-footedness and has the flexibility to slot into the Reds midfield effortlessly.

With a central pairing of Steven Gerrard and Lucas, the likes of Raheem Sterling and Victor Moses on the wings, and Luis Suarez, Daniel Sturridge and Coutinho in the central areas, Hughes may struggle to get any real playing time at the club. Should they sign they youngster, we can expect to see him remaining at Derby until the summer at least.

Hughes is one for the future, certainly, but to secure his signature now could be a shrewd move by all at Liverpool.
