Is Olivier Giroud the real deal? The statistics behind the Arsenal striker

Last season if you had even suggested the idea to Arsenal fans that Olivier Giroud would hit the 20 goal mark this term you would have got some serious stink eye. However, after four league goals in six outings he is well on his way. A long way off, but well on his way. but is the Frenchman the real deal?

As well as scoring a quad of goals this season, Giroud has created a further 10 opportunities for his colleagues - more than any other Arsenal player. Last season he created 34 chances in 34 games, which while not a bad tally, is some way below his current form.

Giroud isn't a very clinical striker when you take a closer look at his stats. Last season the 27-year-old hit the target with just 49% of his shots - 43 on 45 off - and this season it's even worse - his 6 shots on and 10 shots off make a percentage of just 39%.

His duel play is brilliant however, and as a target man he thrives. Not only has he won 38/64 of his headers (59%) but he holds the ball up with ease. His footwork isn't always the best - he has an awful pass completion of just 61%.

Is Olivier Giroud the real deal? Not quite, but he's certainly getting there.
