5 players Manchester United could spend their £80m January budget on

With Manchester united currently the laughing stock of the country, it has been suggested that the Glazers are ready to throw a huge amount of money - £80m according to the Express - at David Moyes to sort their season out. Talk of a flop may be premature, but after their worst start to a campaign in 23 years fans are starting to sweat. Here are five players that they could look to buy, going by the prices at transfermarkt.com.

    1) Leighton Baines - Everton - £19.5m

For me, Baines is the best left-back in world football. There are few who can match his balance in defence and attack while offering so much to his side. He played every minute of the Toffees' Premier League season last time out, creating a huge 116 chances, scoring five and winning 64% of his duels.

    2) Kyriakos Papadopoulos - Schalke - £13m

The giant defender is the perfect replacement for Rio Ferdinand, in my eyes. He's ridiculously strong - both in the air and on the deck - and his play with the ball at his feet is brilliant. Although he's crocked at present, a bid in January would be a shrewd move.

    3) Sergi Roberto - Barcelona - £6m

Reports from yesterday suggested that the little Spaniard was available for as little as £6m, which is quite staggering when you see his record. With over 100 appearances between the B side and the senior side, the Barcelona playmaker is exactly what United need between Michael Carrick and Marouane Fellaini.

    4) Ilkay Gundogan - Borussia Dortmund - £24m

One of the best all-round midfielders in Europe, Gundogan would be another strong shout for the United midfield. Along with Roberto, the Germany international would shore up Moyes' midriff no end.

    5) Ander Hererra - Athletic Bilbao - £17.5m

To put the cherry on the cake, Moyes could go back in for the man he missed out on in the summer, 24-year-old Ander. Just imagine the strength they'd have in midfield. Robin van Persie and Wayne Rooney would have all the chances fed they could ever dream of.

    Total Spend Approx: £80m
