10 defenders that would benefit Manchester United

With Manchester United flying high at the top of the Premier League you would think that life is sweet for Sir Alex Ferguson, but if he does not sort his defensive problems out soon then it could very well decay his title winning ambitions.

The incredible firepower he now has as attacking options is the reason they sit perched over their Manchester counterparts, with Robin Van Persie leading the way in the league's top scorers chart on 16 goals, but their soft spot at the back has threatened to quash their aim to tussle their trophy back from the clutches of Roberto Mancini and his team.

The Reds conceded 10 goals in their 6 games during December, including 3 against Reading and another 3 against Newcastle on Boxing Day, and despite Nemanja Vidic recently returning from injury, Sir Alex needs to add some support into his feeble back-line.

Here we look at 10 players who can play across the back and could plug the leaky defence that United possess.

Before you start watch this clip on one of United's toughest enforcers in recent years Jaap Stam to wet your whistle.
