Spurs still need a striker by tonight

With any team in any league, it's vital that a manager have three out and out strikers to choose from in order to compete with those club's around them. However, with regards to Tottenham Hotspur, Andre Villas-Boas has just the two available to him – Jermain Defoe and Emmanuel Adebayor.

While it can be argued that Clint Dempsey can play the role if need be, he's better suited playing behind a front-man or cutting in from the left wing. With regards to Adebayor, the Togo international is currently with the national team for the African Cup of Nations and is yet to show similar form to that of last season, bar the opening 17 minutes during the 5-2 defeat to Arsenal back in November.

That in mind, it's no shock to see the north London side linked with a host of players to lead the frontline, with Leandro Damiao, Gary Hooper and Alvaro Negredo all supposed targets for Villas-Boas and co.

Nevertheless, the 35-year-old has played down reports suggesting they'll move for a striker before the 11pm deadline, regardless of the draw with Norwich City on Wednesday night. However, it's clear that the club are in need of another frontman, no matter what the head coach says.

With Adebayor failing to match the standards of last season, an injury to Defoe could all but derail Spurs' hopes of securing a top four finish. The arrival of Lewis Holtby will aid in their cause to secure Champions League football, but it could well be vital that the club strengthen their attacking arsenal before 11pm tonight.
