Sandro injury is a massive blow to Spurs (Video)

I once asked whether Sandro could pull a freight train with his teeth. His response? “Of course, but what's a freight train?” It's this interactivity with supporters that has seen the Brazilian midfielder endear himself to the Tottenham Hotspur fans.

Titling himself #SandroBeast on Twitter, it's these aspects that have boosted his reputation with the fans. On top of that, his performances in the heart of the midfield have seen the 23-year-old become renowned as one of the finest holding midfielders in the Premiership and it's no surprise that he currently heads the interceptions list in the league.

However, after twisting awkwardly attempting to play a ball over the top of the Queen's Park Rangers defence during the 0-0 draw at the weekend, Sandro was forced to hobble off from the field of play as a result.

While many had been hoping it would be nothing more than a minor strain, the player himself took to Instagram and Twitter to confirm that he is going in for surgery and reports suggest he's likely to be out for the rest of the season.

It's a cataclysmic blow for the midfielder, who had been in in commandeering form for Spurs this season and while Scott Parker is a more than adequate stand in for the 'Beast', it also leaves head coach Andre Villas-Boas short on depth as a result, which could prove detrimental in their top four aspirations.
