Danny Graham: The man to ease Sunderland's striking burden (Video)

When Sunderland secured the signing of Steven Fletcher, Twitter was inundated with questions pondering why the club would spend potentially £14m on a a striker whose goalscoring record wasn't all that impressive. However, eight goals in 21 Premier League appearances for the Black Cats isn't all too bad a record for a player, who is distinctly lacking the necessary creative playmakers behind him.

As a result, circulating reports suggest that Sunderland are prepared to move for Swansea City striker Danny Graham in order for Martin O'Neill to bolster his attacking options. Despite playing second fiddle to summer arrival Michu for much of the season, the former Watford has still netted four times in his last five games for Michael Laudrup's side.

Regardless of his form, the Dane is prepared to listen to offers for the 27-year-old, with Newcastle United, QPR and Norwich City also believed to have shown an interest in Graham. However, it is Sunderland who have made the first move for the Swans striker after lodging an undisclosed bid for the front-man.

After releasing Louis Saha, who has joined South African outfit Wits University, there is space in the Sunderland squad to bring in another striker and if O'Neill can beat a number of potential suitors to his signatures, it will be an impressive coup for the Black Cats, with a viable back-up for Fletcher expected to be available, while adding additional competition on the front-line to the Scot.
