Will Liverpool be picking up silverware this season?

The appointment of Brendan Rodgers has seen expectations rise amongst Liverpool fans once again. The way the Northern Irishman had his Swansea City team playing football last season, drawing comparisons with Barcelona and seeing them dubbed ‘Swansalona’, further heightened hopes that more trophies could be on their way to Anfield once again, following a disappointing campaign last year, despite picking up the Carling Cup in February. However, the Reds have more of a chance of picking up the jackpot playing Baccarat online then they do of landing any major silverware again for the coming campaign.

Liverpool recently agreed a deal to sign Oussamma Assaidi from Heerenveen to add to the additions of Fabio Borini, who arrived from AS Roma earlier this summer, and Joe Allen. However, the Merseyside giants recently missed out on Bologna’s Gaston Ramirez, who is reported to have agreed a deal to sign for promoted Southampton, news that will surely come as a blow to manager Rodgers.

Nevertheless, regardless of strengthening already this summer, the Reds are still short of options, going forward especially. Borini may have come in, and netted during the 3-0 Europa League win over FC Gomel earlier this month, but with the sale of Dirk Kuyt and the uncertainty surrounding the future of Andy Carroll, it places an overwhelming amount of pressure on the Italian and team-mate Luis Suarez.

However, the over-reliance on the Uruguayan and captain Steven Gerrard could have a detrimental effect on the club for the coming season. While both can be classed as world class players; the pressure and demands could affect the duo both mentally and physically. Rodgers still has time to bolster his squad before the transfer window slams shut at the end of the month and many are of the opinion that they need to bring in more players prior to September 1st.

With the club spending heavily last summer bringing in the likes of Stewart Downing, Charlie Adam and Jordan Henderson, all three of which failed to deliver, it is pivotal that Rodgers brings out the best in his current Liverpool squad if they are to add to the trophy cabinet. As it stands, however, it would be a struggle for the Reds to land more silverware this season, especially if results aren’t positive early on for Rodgers.
