Why Falcao would be the greatest La Liga export

Recent tabloid rumours are strife with speculation that Falcao will become the latest big money signing by Roman Abramovich, it seems no surprise that there is a willingness from the SW6 outfit to get an agreement, given Atletico’s financial constraints.  His goal in the Europa League final, which can be viewed on this clip http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=54BOpyv3NXo&feature=related is just another reminder of the Colombians genius.

Falcao was a striker who burst on the scene thanks to a transfer to FC Porto from South American side River Plate, he was seen as an ideal replacement for striker Lisandro Lopez, he undoubtedly took the Portuguese Premier league by storm, with a strike ratio of 41 goals in 50 games. Among his potent striker rate at Porto, a formidable striker partnership was formed with the current number 12 Hulk, where they helped Andre Villias Boas to complete a treble, prior to his ill-fated departure to Chelsea. His exploits at the Estadio Do Dragao, did not go unnoticed, with Atletico Madrid setting a club record fee with a €40 million pound deal.

As I predicted in a previous article discussing Falcao’s impending impact on La Liga, I was proved right with the striker continuing his hot scoring streak, with 24 goals in his first season, coinciding with a hat trick against Racing Santander in a 4-0 win. He also repeated his love affair with the Europa league, with another outstanding performance, leading the club to a fifth European cup. But going back to recent speculation, it has emerged however, that a hefty £80 million pound release clause is going to have be paid by any potential suitor. Yet if Falcao is to arrive at Chelsea what impact could he have on De Matteo’s side?

Chelsea have just lost the herculean giant in the form of Drogba, so with Torres the only established front-man in the side, it is apparent that Chelsea could do with Falcao becoming his ideal partner. Last season, there was a clear friction to play Drogba with Torres and under Roberto’s leadership, this did prove a masterstroke. But with recent acquisitions of Marko Marin and Eden Hazard, Radamel would help Torres to find more space to benefit from a midfield of such creative nuance. For all Chelsea supporters, it is evident that wherever Falcao has gone, he has a proven track record of being a success, if the fee is paid by Chelsea, it would be a cast iron guarantee that more silverware will arrive in the coming season.
