Why Did The Chicken Cross The Road?

Blackburn Rovers owners the Venky family would be wise to stay in India rather than take a trip to visit their club in the north west of England.

Since buying Rovers for £23 million in 2010 fans at Ewood Park have had very little to cheer at but have booed and protested about the running of the club under the ownership of the Indian chicken men.

The Venky family signalled their intent by promising to make Ronaldinho and Raul Rovers players but neither move ever came to fruition and had the owners under pressure from fans groups from the off.

The chaos at Ewood Park under the Venky’s ownership was summed up by the 2011/12 season. The owners continued to back unpopular manager Steve Kean despite vociferous calls from the fans to sack the Scot, Kean rewarded the owners for their continued support by leading the club to relegation to the Championship.

Fast-forward to September 2012 and the fans could finally celebrate something, seeing the back of Steve Kean as manager following his resignation, citing his position as ‘untenable’, surely he jumped before he was pushed.

Kean’s replacement was a title winner with Rovers in 1995, Henning Berg, but Venky’s were unwilling to show the same patience with Berg and relieved him of his duties with a record of 1 win, and 3 draws, in 10 games.

Venky’s desperation to regain their Premier League status is making the club a laughing stock and even the chickens are making a run for it.
