    A Villa In Swansea

This was the week that I really questioned whether football had lost the plot.

Those that keep a keen eye on any sort of activity in the bookmakers will have noticed that the odds on Barcelona’s David Villa next move being to Swansea City shortened to an unbelievable evens with some firms.

No offence to Swansea but David Villa, Spain’s record goalscorer with an impressive 53 goals in 85 caps, is surely one of the world’s most deadly finishers boasting winners medals for the World Cup, European Championships, Copa Del Rey (3 times), La Liga, Champions League, UEFA Super Cup and Champions League.

Villa has always played his football in Spain and commands an enviable record of scoring a combined 230 goals in 444 games with Sporting Gijon, Real Zaragoza, Valencia and Barcelona. Not only a deadly finisher Villa is often deployed as a peripheral striker and has contributed 57 assists in his league career.

As for any move to the Premier League the Spaniard was linked with Liverpool last January and more recently with Arsenal.

Swansea added £2 million man Michu, an apparent unknown outside of Spain before now, this summer but Villa, a man with a combined transfer history of €52 million, is surely out of reach for now as the Welsh club continue to establish themselves in England’s top flight.
