Liverpool don’t need Sturridge

When news broke of Liverpool’s possible move for Chelsea front-man Daniel Sturridge, you could understand Reds fans bubbling excitement. They are in desperate need of a striker, as evidenced on the reliance of striker Luis Suarez.

The England international may not have the most impressive of striking ratios for the Blues, often being utilised on the wing to make way for the inconsistent Fernando Torres. Sturridge has regularly proclaimed his best position is spearheading the attack, regardless of Carlo Ancelotti, Andre Villas-Boas and Roberto Di Matteo’s insistence that he play out wide.

However, a lack of first-team action has seen him linked with a move away, with Liverpool regularly linked with a move for the 23-year-old. Yet, the Merseysiders would be better suited moving for a striker that is more accustomed to playing through the middle.

Furthermore, Sturridge is ultimately very similar to Luis Suarez in terms of playing style, while his decision making is regularly criticised. It’s good that Liverpool are making movements already to bolster their attacking tanks, but the Chelsea front-man isn’t the right one for the Reds.

There are many a striker across the continent and in South America that they could approach ahead of Sturridge, many of whom would also be a cheaper option than the former Manchester City trainee, with reports suggesting Liverpool are prepared to pay upwards of £10m to secure his services.

Suarez and Sturridge's playing style are not similar in anyway. Suarez has an abundance of skill and his movement is fantastic. Sturridge has a lot of pace and is a good finisher.

If Walcott was an option - I'd rather the club went for him but Daniel would definitely strengthen the teams attack.
