Chelsea would be wrong to pursue Remy (Video)

If Chelsea could sign a striker who wasn’t short on confidence, they would possess one of the most potent front-lines in world football. While Fernando Torres is still a good player, it is unlikely he’ll ever replicate the form that made him such a threat during his time with Atletico Madrid and Liverpool.

However, following the departure of Didier Drogba and loan move of Romelu Lukaku, it has left the Spaniard as the Blues recognised number one striker. Needless to say, it hasn’t worked out perhaps as well as it was expected.

As a result, Chelsea have been linked with a January moves for the hottest striking talents across the continent. After missing out on Bayer Leverkusen youngster Andre Schurrle in the summer, the West London side moved on to Atletico star-man Radamel Falcao.

Now it appears they have entered the race to sign Marseille front-man Loic Remy, who recently was linked with a move to London rivals Tottenham Hotspur. However, by the looks of things, the Blues have only swapped targets due to the price of Falcao.

Reports suggest the La Liga giants are holding out for bids of anything upwards £40m, which is likely to put any team off the Colombian, regardless of his impressive goalscoring record. However, if the Blues are to replicate their exploits of last season, then they will need to spend big in order to land the best players.

By pursuing Remy, who is a good player don’t get me wrong, it suggests Chelsea are only prepared to settle for second best as owner Roman Abramovich looks to curb his spending. If this is the reason to pursue the Frenchman, who will be undoubtedly cheaper to acquire, then it is the wrong way to go about securing further glory in the future, regardless of the ability of the Marseille front-man.
