Stephan El Shaarawy – the man keeping Milan afloat

As far as fall from graces are concerned, AC Milans is up there with the fastest. The Rossoneri were within four points of securing another Serie A title last season, only to be pipped to the summit by a rejuvenated Juventus, led by former midfielder Antonio Conte.

Missing out on domestic glory subsequently saw the club allow Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Thiago Silva leave in big money moves to Paris St. Germain, while Alessandro Nesta, Clarence Seedorf and Gennaro Gattuso also left the San Siro in what was deemed the end of an era for Milan.

Their departures have certainly been felt in the capital, with the black and red half of Milan currently languishing in 10th place, 10 points behind rivals Inter and 14 behind current league leaders Juventus, of whom they defeated on Sunday.

There perilous position would’ve have been worse had it not been for current Italy international Stephan El Shaarawy. The man dubbed Il Faraone – the Pharaoh – has been scintillating form for Milan this season, having netted 10 Serie A goals; just under half of the club’s 21.

While speculation continuously emanates that Massimiliano Allegri will find himself out of work sooner rather than later, it is the performances of El Shaarawy that appear to be keeping the Italian manager in his job at the San Siro.

The fact that he has scored just under 50%of Milan’s Serie A total is a testament to his capabilities and it’s fair to say that the Rossoneri would be in a worse position without him.
