Redknapp would be better for Chelsea than Rafa

With reports suggesting that Rafa Benitez is set to take over at Chelsea until the end of the season, it got me thinking – surely there is a better man for the job in the short-term? As you’re all aware, the Blues opted to axe Roberto Di Matteo on Wednesday morning following the Champions League defeat to Juventus on Tuesday night.

While many fans of the West London side were appalled by the decision, it’s time to forget the past and begin thinking to the future once again. Back to square one, if you will. It has led to many Chelsea supporters moan about the fact that the Spaniard will take over the reins, albeit, temporarily.

His Liverpool roots certainly wouldn’t help his cause, but while Benitez would be an astute appointment, Harry Redknapp would be a better short-term replacement for Di Matteo. The former Tottenham Hotspur boss has been out of management since being shown the exit door over the summer.

The Blues may acquire a Benitez who can bring in fresh ideas, but with the success rate of Redknapp over a short period of time, it certainly makes sense. The veteran boss was linked with the position 18 months ago following the sacking of Carlo Ancelotti and has again seen his name mentioned as a possible successor to Di Matteo.

The football he had Spurs playing during his time at White Hart Lane would certainly appeal to Abramovich, who craves the beautiful football that Barcelona currently play. However, with speculation suggesting that Redknapp is to take over the Ukraine national team, Roman would have to act swiftly to snare the former Portsmouth and Southampton manager.

Don’t get me wrong, Benitez will, in my opinion, be a good appointment for the club. I just believe that Redknapp will be the better appointment, especially if Abramovich is still casting flirtatious eyes across to Pep Guardiola.

I agree. Redknapp made a huge difference at Spurs and would be perfect for Chelsea's new style. The fans won't accept Rafa.
