The Sporting Lisbon winger Liverpool want in January (Video)

It’s hardly confidential knowledge that Liverpool need a new striker come January. The Reds were left short up front following the close of the summer transfer window after allowing Andy Carroll to move to West Ham United on loan and missing out on Clint Dempsey.

The lack of firepower going forward has seen the Reds linked with a host of attacking players, with the likes of Klaas Jan Huntelaar and Burak Yilmaz, of FC Schalke 04 and Galatasaray respectively, mooted with possible switches to Anfield in the New Year.

However, the Merseysiders have now been linked with a potential move for Sporting Lisbon wideman Jeffren. The 24-year-old moved to the Portuguese outfit a little over 18 months ago after failing to break into the Barcelona first-team.

During his time at the Estadio Jose Alvalade, the Venezuela has netted four times in 22 appearances, with injury hampering his impact with Sporting. Nevertheless, it hasn’t turned Liverpool away from the former Spain U21 international.

His crossing ability and combination of speed of skill when breaking forward could see him viewed as an ideal signing for manager Brendan Rodgers, who is believed to be keen to bring in an attacking player when the transfer window reopens in six weeks time.

With reports suggesting that Stewart Downing could be allowed to leave Anfield in January, Jeffren would be an ideal replacement for the underperforming England winger, who has been linked with a return to Middlesbrough.
