    The thrill of the derby

This past weekend saw a number of derby's across the Leagues : Arsenal vs Chelsea, Villa vs West Brom, QPR vs West Ham and the battle of Brian Clough, Notts Forest vs Derby County.

So what is it about the derby that pulls us in? The history? The bragging rights? The pride that you get when you stroll around your workplace knowing that your team has defeated theirs?

It's all of these things and more and that's why we love them.

The main thing that gets me when 'we play them' is that form goes out the window entirely. It becomes a cup final for both teams with no holds barred. The tackles are fierce, the stadiums a couldren of excitement and the tactics just have to be perfect. There is far more than 3 points or the next round on the line.

The derby is a unique beast with no way of telling how the game will pan out. Some electric from start to finish others cagey and tense. Heroes and villains are made and club legends are born.

They all have that unique buzz that makes us feel alive. They remind us why we love football so much.
