Fall from grace but still a class above

It seems only a short while since Mr. James Beattie was a man in demand, finding the net for fun at Southampton whilst collecting a hatful of England caps.

The former Blackburn trainee then went on to break transfer records at both Everton and Sheffield United until his career gradually filtered out.

However, the Lancaster born forward now finds himself struggling to earn a contract back at Bramall Lane in the dizzy heights of League One.

But after much deliberation Blades boss Danny Wilson has rightfully offered the 33 year-old a new contract, believing he still can still cut it at that level-

"His presence in and around the dressing room has been very helpful to us and his experience as we go along the season will be a big help as well." said Wilson.

Of course he can! A player of Beattie's class and their eye for a finish does not diminish, regardless of previous injuries.

If given the time on the pitch, he will no doubt score bags of goals for the Yorkshire club. Who knows, he may even give Jordan Rhodes a run for his money....Beattie would have to be very, very fast mind.
