Sorry Sorry Arsenal. Should Wenger go?

Welcome to this week's edition of The Green Room. Despite the title of this week's offering we'll be covering two topics. Firstly, and unsurprisingly, the (once mighty) Arsenal, who have taken shooting themselves in the foot to new levels. Secondly we have a brief word about Liverpool FC's favourite plank, Nathan Eccleston. Who's speciality is putting his foot in his mouth.

So, what can I say? Arsenal score five goals in a game and still ended up losing 4-3. Unbelievable! I think it goes without saying that Arsene Wenger is hanging on by a thread to his near 15 year tenure at Arsenal. How ironic would it be if what transpired to be Wenger's last game as Arsenal manager was a 4-3 loss to the team that he defeated in his first match as Arsenal manager back in 1996?

As things stand, Wenger may well be the winner of the sack race this year. I believe that should they fall into the bottom three, then his stay in North London may well come to an end. I do find it had to believe though, that Arsenal would sack their astute and learned manager. Having said that, stranger things have happened.

What I'm about to say is something that's been said more times than "Hello". Or "Good morning" perhaps. Wenger must abandon his policy of youth. It worked for Sir Alex Ferguson because his youngsters were brought up on the rough and tumble that is English football and no adaptation is needed. Wenger's youngsters have always been very hit and miss. Either they excel and set the world alight or they get their heads turned by a major club in their homeland. On one hand we have the likes of Manu Petit and Patrick Viera, more recently Robin Van Persie, who settled in relatively quickly and were immense.

On the other we have those who show some promise and when they're beginning to reach their peak, they're off. Step forward Jose Antonio Reyes, and when you do, make a space for Cesc Fabregas. Fabegas you could argue was a good servant for Wenger, but then I can't help hearing the words of Randy Van Warmer's 70's classic "You left me (just when I needed you most)". You Tube it. Wenger is in danger of becoming the next Ozzie "I'll stick to my principles" Ardiles, and promptly being sacked whilst rock bottom of the league.

A quick look at the team sheet shows me only two players who I'd consider ready or experienced enough for premiership football. The aforementioned Van Persie, and of course the seasoned Mikel Arteta. That's it. The rest are either new buys, or not up to the task. Arshavin? Song? Gervinho? I don't think they'll be making any Premiership opposition fret too much this season. Wenger needs to get real and get some more steel and experience. Rein in the indulgence in the young and untried. If not, I fear Wenger may well fall on his own sword.

So, to close today, I'd just like to comment on something that's taken a lot of headlines this week from various bloggers and writers, myself included. Young Nathan Eccleston at Liverpool's Twitter comments about the perpetrators of the 9/11 incident in the US. Eccleston has been slated in some quarters for voicing an opinion which, to be fair has gained some momentum over the last couple of years. Yes, the old chestnut about conspiracy. My take on this is that Liverpool should be proud that they actually have a player with an opinion about something other than the beautiful game. Perhaps mis-timed  though. I would say in Eccleston's defense that he did not in any way condone or excuse the incident. He merely expressed a increasingly popular opinion. I applaud the lad, although I would advise to Eccleston: Stick to trying to break into the Liverpool first team, and not onto the front pages of the tabloids.

Personally I think Wenger should do the honorable thing and resign saying he can take the team no further. He can always go to PSG who want him as their manager, plus he has a flat near their grounds. Arsenal have lost the respect they once had and are now the laughing stock of all and sundry. Bring in a strong manager who is not afraid to drop players if they're not performing.

wenger has totally lost the plot. The task now is way beyond him...its spiralling downwards and it will need a massive turnaround. Wenger is making more and more extreme excuses for the run of appalling results....yesterdays excuse was a reference to the tiredness from the dortmund game.
He HAS to go if he has any decent feeling for arsenal.

Wenger has lost the plot. If results don't improve ,He will have to go. He has only himself to blame for too much focus on youth development at the expense of experience. He is now paying the price.
Back in the autumn of 2008,he could do no wrong but then ixplicably he let Flamini and a few others run down their contract.Had he offered terms these players could have stuck around. This season is a s good as gone.
I fthe gunners fail to clinch the fourth spot that will show you how far the gunners have fallen.

Wenger is a good manager. But he is in serious need of a break from football, managing a top 4 english club for 15 years is not easy with no big investments in the squad. I guess fans are building up the pressure on him for not winning a trophy for last 6 years, but instead they should actually blame the owners for it. i being a Liverpool supporter dont have much information but from a neutral's point of view they haven't won a trophy since moving in to emirates from highbury because the current owners dont have much financial muscle to flex.
Believe me You gunners we LFC supporters can understand what u r going through so just stand by the manager and players who really want to play for your team.

thanks to the liverpool fan for his "support" and encouragement. Just to answer the points raised: we have shareholders in kroenke and usamanov that have 3 times the wealth of abramovitch....the obstacle is wenger.
Wenger adamantly refuses to spend big money...he has made a profit on transfers the past 3 seasons....breaking even would be at least the bare minimum spend. Profit making at the expense of quality players is almoat a crime...particularly when season tickets were raised 6per cent.
LIke i said, thanks to the neutral fan for a compassionate comment...but the problem is very deep rooted and has been planted by wenger.

Wenger is not up to date anymore.. He can go manage a team in Burma and maybe be successfull for a few years because the training he knows are a bit ahead of time in Burma..

After a few years when everybody has the same knowlege, he goes back to being the klovn we are seeing today!

Many of us are genuine concerned gunners fans who are sick and tired of seeeing our side go downhill.Wenger has bought poorly this transfer window apart from Arteta and possible Gervinho. We should have invested in 2 top class centre halfs i.e Cahill and Alex from Chelsea. We should have got Mata who we could have got before Chelsea, what a massive shame that is by the way.Eden Hazard would have been a top signing for us.

Mertersecker and Santos look awful, but hey Wenger always make shocking decisions when it comes to buying centre halfs,Cygan Squilacci Koscielny Luhzny and Djorou for starters.

The reason we was successful in the old days under Wenger was because we had Adams,Bould,Keown,Dixon, and Winterburn, who was proper defenders who knew their roles. And Wenger made us a world class side with the signings of Henry,Viera,Petit,Pires,Ljungberg and Sylvain Wiltord etc.

But the business we did this summer was poor.Wenger is a great manager, but i feel he's lost the plot the last few years.Get a grip on the situation fast Arsene, because otherwise we will be Europa league at best next season. You better do some good business in january, because at the moment we look a complete laughing stock!
