The League of Barcelona

Barcelona is dominating club football at the moment not just because they have Messi but because of the system and structure of the team. Even though they have great individual talents, what makes them effective is the willingness of every individual to work for the collective. At the end of most games praises more often than not are directed towards Messi because he is often at the end of marvellous moves by Barca but it is the team effort that sees them dominate teams.

Barcelona are the complete team because they are arguably the most offensive minded team in club football but also one of the most difficult to break down and score against. Man utd were comprehensively beaten not because they are a weak team but because the type of football Barcelona play is complete, attack as a team and defend as a team. They don’t just focus on one aspect of the game.  The Man utd team that Barcelona beat in 2009 had Ronaldo, Tevez, Rooney among others so Man utd’s loss was not down to individuals who made up the team.  

Barca is currently in a league of their own with everyone else playing catch-up. The answer to beating Barcelona is not in buying but in building a team ethos, doing what you do best effectively and on a consistent basis. Arsenal showed that Barcelona is not invincible and some might argue that the Gunners deserved to go through.
