Moyes' rumour Mills tick over in a Scunthorpe café

This is going to sound like one of those typical rumours that you read on your club’s forum pages, but this one actually has some legs.

I was sat in a Tesco’s café in Scunthorpe on Tuesday evening enjoying an iced latte and chatting with a friend. I was mid-conversation when I was astounded to see David Moyes walk in. Now, being from Scunthorpe myself I know the town quite well, and let me tell you, I had a sneaky suspicion that Dave wasn’t there for a mini-break with the wife.

I immediately thought that he must be in town to watch Shane Long. With the Irishmen hitting goals for fun at the moment it was an easy assumption to make. I am reliably informed however, that Moyes was actually there to take notes on Reading’s young captain and highly rated centre half, Matt Mills.

It wouldn’t be the first time Moyes has dipped into the Championship for a top quality centre half after making England internationals out of Joleon Lescott and Phil Jagielka.

Mills himself has flirted with the Premiership in the past with Southampton and Manchester City, so might well be interested in a move to Everton if Reading’s promotion push fails.

As for Moyes, if all else fails at least he had a nice piece of almond cake…
