Celtic remain top with Rangers staying on their heels

The SPL title is still up for grabs for both sides of Glasgow, Celtic and Rangers both had poor games but still grind out the result. Celtic faced second from bottom side St Mirren, while Rangers travelled to New Douglas Park to face bottom club Hamilton Academical.

Celtic struggled to find the net at Celtic Park on Saturday and it took a great strike from supersub Kris Commons to gain three points. While Celtic have been relying on Kris Commons’ goals to save them recently, Rangers have also been relying on Nikica Jelavic. Both players kept their respective clubs title hopes alive this weekend and the title looks like it’s going to go down to the wire. Jelavic bagged the points for Rangers with a stunning free kick that left Hamilton keeper Tomas Cerny deflated, after pulling off a couple of quality saves previous to the goal.

The SPL may yet again be decided on the last day of the season but the final Old Firm game on Easter Sunday will surely be crucial. Celtic on paper have much more strength and depth in their squad, however Rangers have the players with experience who have won the title the last two years running.

Expect an exciting end to season.
