Regular sports and music activities have begun at the Homeless World Cup Legacy Centre in Santa Cruz.

The Youth and Women's Leadership Centre in Santa Cruz had welcomed 75 local youngsters to the first football and education day with more than 200 expected to attend a similar event this Wednesday.

The centre is supported by the services of two Bola pra Frente's football trainers and an events co-ordinator to develop the programme of activities for members of the local community.

Mel Young, President and Co-founder of the Homeless World Cup said: "I am delighted that the Homeless World Cup Legacy Centre in Santa Cruz is fully operational. I hope that as many people as possible benefit from this marvellous facility and that it ignites lasting and positive change for everybody that uses it."

The state of the art Youth and Women's Leadership Centre in Santa Cruz was built as part of the legacy project for the Rio 2010 Homeless World Cup and received an official opening on 8th November 2010.

The centre is focused on assisting young people and women within the local community by providing education and leadership training and an opportunity to play regular sport, ensuring the benefits of football are available to people in Santa Cruz.
