Go on Junior, go big for Canada! Or was it Jamaica?

When you think of Canada, you don’t normally think of football.

Ice hockey perhaps? Wayne Gretzky, he was pretty decent with a stick and some skates.

Or maybe music? After all, Shania Twain was Canadian, but that doesn’t impress me much.

Who can forget Justin Bieber too? Well sadly, not me, even though I’d love to.

For those of you who are ‘down with the kids’, you’ll already though that rapper Drake hails from Toronto.

But still, no real world-class footballers.

Tomasz Radzinski at a push, but he never attracted the big-boys of the European game.

So wouldn’t it be great if Blackburn’s Junior Hoilett could break the status quo and go on to be one of the shining stars of this great sport.

Born in Ontario, the 21 year-old is earning the attention of Tottenham and Newcastle following impressive displays over the past few years.

That, coupled in with the fact his current contract is set to expire at the end of the season, has led to rumours linking the winger with a move away from Ewood Park in January.

But today, reports are claiming Rovers are keen to slap an £18m price-tag on the head of their starlet, to scare off any big name pursuers and give them more time to convince him to stay in Lancashire.  

But surely if Hoilett has major ambitions of representing his country on the biggest stage, he will seek a switch when the transfer window re-opens in two months.

Or, will he trust the Rovers’ owners and stay to help lift his side up the table.

Either way, Canada won’t get a better chance for one of their own to light up football at the highest level.

Wait a minute, Hoillett also qualifies for Jamaica and his dad would prefer him to play for them?

So sorry Mr Radzinski, all is forgiven.

Should Hoilett look for a move in the transfer window, or would he be better staying at Blackburn?
