Diary of a Sky Sports Soccer Saturday Reporter

Post-match interviews with managers can sometimes be better than the actual match, it’s rarely boring listening to Jose Mourinho, Mick McCarthy and Neil Warnock.

By contrast, player interviews can be awful viewing, which is why I got involved with media training footballers in all the top five divisions.

Whilst helping out with the lads at Rotherham, I got to know then-youth team boss Alan Knill, who went on to manage the first team, Bury and is now at Scunthorpe. It’s always good to see Alan again so when I was given the job of Sky post-match interviews at Scunny's home game with Leyton Orient I was really pleased, especially as it was his birthday. Unfortunately his team lost 3-2 to the bottom side and it soon became apparent he wanted the interview to end as quickly as possible! Perhaps he could do with a bit of media training!... only joking big man… I hope enjoyed the rest of your birthday.
