    Wrexham Vs Newport Match Report

This match report is based on Saturday's BSP match between Wrexham AFC & Newport County. The match was heavily policed as it is a welsh derby in the division. All pictures and report has been written and taken by me.

Wrexham started with the same XI that played against Luton on the previous Tuesday and Newport also named an unchanged side. Here are the squads that started at the Racecourse Ground:

    Wrexham

    25 Mayebi

    02 Obeng

    03 Ashton

    04 Creighton

    20 Knight-Percival (yellow card)

    06 Harris

    07 Cieslewicz

    12 Keates

    18 Tolley (Clarke 33)(yellow card)

    10 Speight (Morrell 66)

24 Pogba (yellow card) (Wright 61)

    Newport County

    01 Potter

    05 Warren

    16 Andrew Hughes

    17 Hatswell

    25 Rodgers (yellow card)

    07 Rose

    14 Doherty (yellow card)

    19 Pipe (Miller 45+1)

    09 McAllister

    10 Foley

    11 Knights (Jarvis 84)

Newport frustrated a confident Wrexham who were in good form going into the match. On paper Wrexham were clear favourites but a struggling Newport side produced a gritty performance. Both sides are under new management; Wrexham under interim player manager Andy Morrell and Newport under Justin Edinburgh. Newport's best chance of the match was in the first minute when Craig McAllister fired straight at Mayebi from five yards out. Wrexham's best chance fell to Jake Speight who fired wide when he was put through one on one.

The match was full of bookings for both sides as tackles flew in left, right and centre. Despite the draw Wrexham remained top of the league and are now two points ahead of big spenders Fleetwood Town. Newport stay in the relegation zone however things are looking much better at the Newport Stadium.
