Shaky Liverpool hold out for crucial win

So today I’ll start by saying well done to the Liverpool side that stuck it out to win 0-2 against a determined and resilient Everton side.

    Right In Toon

The chances are that none of you know this, but I am a Wolverhampton Wanderers fan. I have been a Wanderer since I was about eight when I asked my Dad who the local teams are, and thought the name ‘Wolves’ sounded the coolest.

    Lucky lucky Liverpool

Surprisingly for me, I don’t have that much to say this week. I guess the old thing about “You only sing when you’re winning” doesn’t really apply to me. I only pipe up when Liverpool are playing rubbish or when there’s been some enormous upset. So, you may ask, you got three points yesterday and got through to the next round of the Carling Cup so why are you bothering us?

    Liverpool-A New Era

Roy Hodgson. Even the name now makes me shudder. Despite being initially pleased with the man who masterminded Fulham to Europe taking charge of the Reds. I can not even begin to think of anything apart from his reign as a shambles. When Liverpool needed a savior along came Kenny Dalglish, the perfect man for the job. Now we find ourselves in September with a new look squad and an impressive start to the season. 3 wins and an undeserved loss to Stoke later Liverpool find themselves 6th and very much in contention. Dalglish has made an impact with strong signings and employing a strong team spirit.

    North London in mourning

First was the absolute slaughter of Arsenal. To say I was shocked was an understatement and I’m no Gooner. The 8-2 thrashing of Arsenal was very telling. The 2-5 drubbing if Tottenham even more so. A quick glance of the Premier league table shows Manchester Utd occupying first spot, Manchester City in second and Liverpool and Chelsea occupying third and fourth respectively. The top two have a combined goal difference of 19.

    Reds maintain expectations

There’s an expression in football for a certain type of team. A team with, maybe three or four good players and the rest are all pretty ordinary. If you happen to be one of the “ordinary” players, then the team is said to be carrying you. Carrying you in the sense that you can’t contribute anything to the game.

What do Andy Carroll and David De Gea have in common?

After yesterday’s performance, this is a question I have to ask. I’m sure, for all Liverpool fans, this is tantamount to sacrilege for me to question Kenny Dalglish’s judgement in the transfer market but nonetheless I have to do it. I know we’re only two games into the season but thus far, other than the last 20 minutes of yesterday’s game, I’ve not seen Liverpool play anywhere like they did in the latter half of last season. In both cases, Carroll was not playing for the most part. Carroll huffed and puffed and pushed and bundled his way through the game with precious little to show except another disallowed goal following another questionable attempt to win the ball.

Fernando Torres – The Dormant Star

On 31st January 2011 the British transfer record was smashed by Chelsea, signing Fernando Torres for £50million on a five-and-a-half year contract. That same day Andy Carroll’s move from Newcastle to Liverpool for £35million made him the most expensive British footballer in the game. At first glance Chelsea had signed one of the world’s most prolific goal scorers for only £15million more than Liverpool’s deal for a young unproven 22 year old striker. Carroll’s inexperience is illustrated by the fact that he had only one season of Premiership experience.

Liverpool leading the race for Young

Hierarchy at Villa have resigned to losing the England International reports the Guardian, but with United not able to guarantee first team football, it appears Fergie may miss out on the former Watford man who could leave for a reported £15million.
