Manchester United Forward To Leave In The Summer According To Agent - A Look Back At His Career To Date

At 22, Federico Macheda is still looking to live up to his potential. After he astonished Old Trafford with his short burst of form back in 2009, he has since been loaned out to Italian side Samporia, Queens Park Rangers, Stuttgart and most recently Doncaster Rovers in League One, who he made a strong impression on. Now though it seems that a loan deal is off the cards, but his agent has told top Italian source TuttoMercatoWeb that he will be leaving on a free in the summer. Let's take a look back at his short career to date.

Macheda actually started his footballing dream with Lazio, but signed to the Manchester United youth ranks when he was just 16. The Italian came over to England to start what many thought would be a glittering career, and at just 18 he scored his first goal for the first team, a late winner against Aston Villa back in the 2008/09 season.

He has gone on to make 36 appearances for the club and has scored five goals, but it's been on loan where he has spent most of his time.

With no league goals in 14 games with Sampdoria, no goals in three league games for QPR and no goals for Stuttgart in his entire 18-game stint in Germany, it was up to his loan spell at Doncaster to get his name back out there. It did, as he scored a couple of the first few games for the club, but injury saw him return to United.

With Wayne Rooney, Robin van Persie and Danny Welbeck all standing in his way, as well as Javier Hernandez, it was never going to be easy for Macheda to break into the team, and it now seems that he won't.

    Goodbye, Federico.
